2009 UDSDF Scholarships PRINT PAGE
The Upper Dublin Swimming and Diving Foundation is seeking applicants for its sixth annual Swimming and Diving Scholarship Program. Applications will be distributed to the review committee, who will select an award recipient for the each of the categories outlined below. The deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Emailed applications and references preferred, with attachments in Microsoft Word or PDF, to aquatics@udsdf.org. Any mailed entries must also be received by Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Late entries will not be considered.
The review committee will consider all applicants for both awards. UDSDF recommends that applications and references submitted address criteria outlined for each of the awards listed below:
A $1,000 Scholar/Athlete scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who is a swimmer/diver and Upper Dublin resident, not necessarily a student at Upper Dublin High School. Applicants must submit a one-page essay explaining why they feel they deserve the award. Applicants must also submit a recommendation from one of their swim coaches and also from a teacher in their high school. Applications should include name, address, phone number, high school GPA, along with any academic and/or athletic awards received. A copy of the applicant’s college acceptance letter should also be included.
A second $1,000 Leadership scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who is a swimmer/diver and has demonstrated a leadership role; for example, a captain of his/her high school swim/diving team. The applicant must be a resident of Upper Dublin, though again, not necessarily a student at Upper Dublin High School. This award will focus on leadership characteristics. A one-page essay must be submitted explaining how the applicant has shown leadership of the swim team and also in another area. Applicants need to address how they intend to continue to exhibit leadership characteristics in the future. Include name, address, phone number, high school, a recommendation from the high school swim coach and a recommendation from someone for whom they performed in a leadership position outside of swimming.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 at the Upper Dublin Aquatic Club's C.J. Martin Relay Carnival, hosted by Maple Manor Swim Club. Winners will be contacted prior to the event. The community is invited to attend the swim meet, which is held from 5 to 8 p.m.
Emailed applications and references preferred, with attachments in Microsoft Word or PDF.
To be considered, mailed entries must also be received no later than Wednesday, June 3rd 2009 :
